The Coldstream Gateway Association
The main Coldstream town charity was set up in 2003 with the aim of promoting, enhancing and developing the town of Coldstream for the benefit its inhabitants and visitors by:
- Advancing the education of the public in the history, heritage, culture and environment of the Scottish Borders town of Coldstream by raising awareness of the town
- Relieving the poverty of the inhabitants of Coldstream and seeking to reduce the isolation of those who are excluded by means of their poverty, age, disability or other means
- Engaging in activities which are wholly charitable and will promote the awareness of Coldstream and will be beneficial to its community
The Royal Caledonian Charities Trust prides itself on a history of charitable giving dating back to the 1840s. Since inception it is estimated that the Trust has donated over £3,000,000 to a variety of small Scottish charities working in a range of different fields and locations (including many in the Borders) but with a focus on the elderly, children, those with disabilities, the injured and the homeless.

Art touches and enriches lives, and supporters help the National Gallery maximise access to its unrivalled collection through programmes and activities which involve and engage people of all backgrounds.
The Gallery’s world-class collection was founded and developed thanks to the generosity of key individuals, in particular Sir George Beaumont who in 1826 helped to create the National Gallery by giving his collection of great master paintings to the nation.
Since then, generations of generous philanthropists have continued to make substantial gifts, both of paintings and financial support, which have had a fundamental impact on the Gallery. Gifts enable the Gallery to conserve and re-frame paintings, mount exhibitions, carry out ground-breaking research, and continue to widen access to this important collection. In 2008 for example the successful partnership of the National Galleries of Scotland and the National Gallery London raised the funding to acquire two Titians from the Duke of Sutherland, which reunited Diana and Actaeon with its sequel, Death of Actaeon.
